How To: Use Travel Spells to thier Fullest
Travel Spells; the very name sounds as though it's something cool - and oh how it is. Fewer things in NS are as complicated as travel spells; most (if not all) have heavy limitations upon them - who, where, how. This how-to will try to take some of the mystry out of travel spells for the novice and pro alike, and generally make life more intersting for every one.
I. Types
There are several types of travel spells, which generally
increase in usefulness to the masses. First is lowly Gate - it
just transfers you and you alone to a target. Next is
ShadowFlight; same deal as gate - just you to a target (room in
this case). Portal is the start of being "useful to
others" - it leaves a one-way gate to the target mob, which
persists for a while - handy for transfering a group to a target.
The next up is Nexus, which creates a longer-lasting 2 -way
portal to a target - free travel is possible this way. The Final
stage of "useful to others and yourself" is Summon -
this pulls a mob to your location, making charming, cash runs,
ectera easy and painless. Tidy eh?
II. Limitations
There are myriad limitations on travel spells. Since it'd be
difficult to read these in paragraph form, i'll put them in a
list format, complete with explanations:
1. Player Limitations
A. You can only gate/summon to a player who's got nosummon turned
off - even if they are in your clan.
B. If their not in your clan, you can't do anything but summon
them.
C. You can't gate/summon anyone below level 8
D. It appears that clanless are able to be gated/summoned by all
if they have nosummon turned off.
2. Room/Area limitations
A. You can't gate/summon into or out of a "No Recall"
room
B. You CAN shadowflight into or out of a "No Recall"
room
C. You Can't gate into a Private room (shadow i'm not sure about)
D. Some rooms are flagged "no travel" - these can't be
gated/summoned/shadowflighted at all
E. You can't summon/gate/shadow into Clan HQ's
3. Mob Limitations
A. Any mob killed with summon takes longer (~15 minutes) to
repop.
B. Last killed is last on the repop list - so you'll gate/summon
it first.
C. There isn't a "repop problem" with gate - you can
gate to a mob as if it'd repopped reguarly
D. If a mob "wanders on home" from a summon, it takes
approx. 15 minutes to "repop".
E. Some mobs are flagged "No Summon/Gate/Ect" - and
can't be gated to.
F. Mobs can be addressed by #.Mob_name in summon/gate
So much for the "limitations"; now for the "rules and regulations" (as Stated by Kyla in a public statement):
It's considered Power-Leveling to summon/otherwise provide travel for lower-levels seeking Exp-granting mobs. In other words, you can't summon a mob for a low-level clannie/freind to kill - or open a portal/nexus, ect. It's also considered "rude" to summon aggro monsters outside of clan halls or barney - of course, life's a big fat bitch and stuff happens.
So, have fun with the travel spells, and remember - only ShadowFlight is silent; the rest all give a visible sign of arrival. Have Fun!
